Deemed the hottest beauty hang out in London, this month we are catching up with the team behind the Cheeky salons to find out more about their unique and quirky interiors and what the driving force was behind their aesthetic inspiration.
‘Barber & Parlour’ is a three-floor space located on Redchurch Street in Shoreditch offering several grooming options for men and women. There is a Cheeky Parlour for manicures and pedicures; Hair by colourist Josh Wood for colours, cuts, up-dos and blowouts; a beauty store stocked with cult products; and a Neville barber for beard trims and haircuts.
Tell us more about how Cheeky came to be?
Derived in East London and now dotted all around London, this colourful and creatively named collection of beauty parlours and products combines accessible beauty with Shoreditch cool.
The team behind Cowshed has developed a collection that ensures your hands and feet are perfectly presentable at all times.
How does Cheeky stand out from its competitors in the London salon scene?
We like to deliver fast and affordable pampering whilst maintaining our exceptional quality. The polishes we sell in parlours and in stores are the same professional products we use in our treatments. Using natural products within our blend, Cheeky polishes are ‘3-free’ so don’t contain Dibutyl Phthalate, Formaldehyde and Toluene.
Furthermore, our ergonomically designed brush ensures the varnish is easy to apply yourself, not just salon suitable. We also deliver unique nail looks that reflect current trends and add a little funk to any manicure. We have a look book of fashionable favourites or if a customer wants something more specific they can bring in their own inspiration.
Tell us more about how your products came to be, and which is your best seller?
Our two best sellers are Cherry Nice and Eat, Sleep, Grey. The deep red is perfect in winter months whilst the grey is great for a summer/autumn look.
What makes each individual salon different?
Our flagship parlour is based in Shoreditch, Redchurch Street, and sits next to Josh Wood on the upper floor of Barber & Parlour. Perfect for head to toe pampering, we offer waxing and nails by Cheeky and blow dries by the brilliant Josh Wood within the same space. We have recently opened a parlour on the lower ground floor of Topshop Oxford Circus which has been a great success.
Recognising that many of our customers are the same, we thought why not make it possible to shop and preen in the same place. Finally, based in the city centre, Cheeky Holborn is the perfect place to reclaim your lunch break or to pop in before a night out on the town.
What made you want to take such a quirky (and colourful!) route when it came to branding and interior aesthetics?
Cheeky is all about fun and we wanted that to translate across all aspects of the brand. The distinctive character shines through in the playful names, colours and interior design. It is important that customers understand that Cheeky is not a lengthy spa experience (if you’re looking for this, go to Cowshed!) but more a convenient and fun place to get glam before the weekend.
As people who are closest to the brand, we believe it is important to engage Cheeky customers and technicians in the product development process. Listening and reacting to our clients’ needs means we have a tightly edited range of popular shades.
How does Cheeky keep up to date with the latest trends within the industry?
Nail looks are a big focus for Cheeky, we create looks that are in keeping with evolving styles, as well as releasing nail shades that are befitting to each season.
What do you think are the attributes that make a successful salon?
It is important that we deliver great customer service from start to finish. From the booking process to aftercare, we want our customers to feel comfortable and welcome at Cheeky. Our iconic pedicure chairs are specially designed to maximise comfort while looking effortlessly stylish.
What can we expect from Cheeky in 2017 and beyond?
We have a really exciting new opening coming in Spring. Can’t say too much but it’s in the heart of the City and it will be our biggest project yet!
