At the moment the majority of us are spending a great deal of time indoors. But what happens when we’re able to go out and about more?

Your clients are going to want their skin to be in top condition for the return of their social lives. Here are 5 products to introduce into your skin treatments post-lockdown so your clients will be looking their best.

Products to introduce into your skin treatments

Here are 5 products to introduce into your skin treatments so your clients will be coming back again and again…

1. Swann Morton – the dermaplaning blades of choice

More and more clients are coming to expect dermaplaning as part of their salon skin treatments. It’s a treatment which has grown and become more commonplace in recent years – so if you don’t yet offer dermaplaning you could be missing out.

But if it is one of the services you offer, perhaps now’s the time to upgrade your dermaplaning tools ahead of your salon re-opening?

At Salons Direct we carry a wide range of dermaplaning blades as well as all the associated accessories you’ll need. Our Sheffield-made Swann Morton blades are proving to be exceptionally popular thanks to their brilliant quality.

Swann Morton dermaplaning blades have quickly become a salon favourite.

2. Mccosmetics Micro Needling Pen

If there’s one treatment that dermatologists can’t stop raving about, it’s microneedling.

Although the treatment dates back to the mid-1990s, it’s only during the past decade that it’s really gained in popularity. The insertion of very fine short needles into the skin has a rejuvenating effect, and offers almost immediate results – creating plump, pink and luminous looking skin.

If you’re looking to up your microneedling game when your salon re-opens (and you’re looking for something that’ll set you apart from your competitors), the Mccosmetics Micro Needling Pen is for you.

It offers results that are far superior than those offered by traditional rollers. For example, it promises to improve collagen fibres by up to 100%. Check it out.

If you’re looking for an alternative microneedling pen, try the Skinmate Microneedling Pen which includes 5 levels of speed and a digital speed control display.

If you're looking for a quality microneedling pen the Mccosmetics Pen is it.

3. Million Dollar Ice Globes – the perfect finale for facials

Not only do the Million Dollar Ice Globes turn heads, they’re the perfect finish for facial treatments.

Use the Million Dollar Ice Globes to eliminate redness and calm skin after a range of treatments such as dermaplaning, waxing, electrolysis, peels and microdermabrasion. If you do facials, you’ll need these in your salon.

At this point you might be asking what they do exactly? Well, the Million Dollar Ice Globes have been specially designed to stimulate blood circulation and oxygenate the skin as well as treating sinus pain, puffy eyes and headaches and migraines. In short, they work wonders!

We also want to give a shout out to another must have product for facial treatments – The Digital Facial Steamer. It does far more than your average steamer, with a built in ultra violet lamp which generates ozone along with the option to add Essential Oils to the steam dispenser.

4. Skinmate LED Light Mask – the non-invasive treatment option

If you’re looking for the ultimate in LED light therapy, then look no further than Skinmate’s LED Light Mask

Unlike other masks, the Skinmate LED Light Mask can deliver targeted doses of phototherapeutic energy to focused ‘problem’ areas of your client’s face. It also has the ability to switch between blue light and red light therapies to treat acne and stimulate collagen respectively.

It’s also the perfect treatment for pre and post microdermabrasion treatments, rejuvenating your client’s skin.

5. Don’t forget those facemasks!

They might not be as exciting as the other products and treatments listed on this page, but you shouldn’t forget about the classic face mask – the cornerstone of any skin treatment.

As you’d expect, we stock a huge range here at Salons Direct. We’ve got everything from Hydrogel sheet masks and pumpkin infused sheet masks through to multi-grain infused masks.

Stock up and get ready to transform your client’s skin treatments.

As well as introducing these new products into your treatments, it’s a great idea to encourage your clients to put in place a regular skin care routine at home too.

Establish a routine

In between central heating, the arctic-like outdoors and everything else, your skin goes through a lot. Maintaining your skin in the best possible condition isn’t just about using the best products (although that helps), but using them as part of a routine.

Here are some of the things your clients can do at home to keep their skin healthy.

Cleanse

Good skin isn’t the result of a miracle (although yes, some of us are more blessed than others) but as a result of an effective skincare regime – the foundation of which is cleansing. It’s important you get cleansing right though, or you’ll do more harm than good. Why? Because of something called the ‘acid mantle’.

The acid mantle is a thin protective layer that covers your skin. It’s made up of amino and lactic acids that mix with fatty acids (or oils) from the sebaceous glands. That’s a technical way of saying it’s a layer of oils that protects your skin.

The acid mantle also has a pH level. This is generally about 5.5 which is mildly acidic (the pH scale spans from 1-14, with 7 being neutral, 1 being acidic, and 14 being alkaline).

So, it’s important you use the right sort of cleanser. If you use a cleanser that’s too harsh, you’ll break down the acid mantle and leave your skin susceptible to damage, dryness and even conditions such as eczema.

Toning

Using toner is very much an optional step, but it can have benefits. For example, a toner can be a great way of restoring the pH balance of your skin. Whenever you wash and use shampoos and other products, you wash away some of that protective acid mantle layer. So, a toner can help restore some of your skin’s natural oils.

Toner can also help if you have acne-prone skin. If that’s something your client experiences, recommend them a toner with ingredients like salicylic acid which can calm breakouts. On the other hand, if you have a client who experiences dry skin, recommend them a hydrating toner which will soothe dry patches.

Use a serum

Your client might not realise it, but their skin sustains a lot of damage throughout the day from the sun and pollution. Encouraging your client to add a serum, especially a Vitamin C  or Vitamin A serum, to their skin care regime can help reverse a lot of that damage.

How do serums repair damage? When you apply a serum to your skin after cleansing and toning you are effectively delivering a ‘shot’ of beneficial ingredients directly into your skin. It’s kinda like feeding your skin the vitamins and other elements it needs to stay healthy.

Serums have a lipid-soluble base which enables the active ingredients within the serum to penetrate into the epidermis, rather than lying on the surface as a moisturiser does.

Don’t forget the eye cream

It’s said that your eyes are the gateway to your soul. Your soul aside, your eyes are the first part of your face that people look at, so you should be sure to include eye cream as part of your skin care regime.

The skin around your eyes is thinner and will therefore show the signs of aging quicker than your skin elsewhere. This thinness also makes the skin around your eyes more vulnerable and prone to allergic reactions etc. Therefore, it makes sense to give the skin around your eyes a little more TLC.

Look for eye creams that contain antioxidants, cell-communicating and skin-healing ingredients. Incorporating eye cream into your skin care routine will make the skin around your eyes healthier, develop collagen, lighten discolouration and restore that all important skin barrier.

There are lots of new products you can get to improve your in-salon skin treatments

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

If any product deserves to be labelled the ‘Queen’ of skin care products, it’s moisturiser.

If your client is serious about maintaining healthy, vibrant, youthful skin moisturising should be a core part of their skin care habits. Moisturising has so many benefits; reducing the chances of skin problems, reducing the appearance of blemishes, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, to name just a few.

Moisturiser seals, supports and protects the top layers of your skin (the layer known as the epidermal barrier). When selecting a moisturiser, look for one that has both humectant and emollient properties – look out for ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid and squalene.

Encouraging more in-salon treatments

By encouraging your clients to adopt a skin care routine like the one above, you can get them thinking more about their skin – and make them consider having in-salon skin treatments more often.

There you have it. Those are our top 5 products to introduce into your skin treatments after lockdown. Have you got any favourites you’d like to highlight with the Salons Direct team? Are there any we should be getting stock? Let us know!
