Henna brows are a treatment that really boomed in 2019! This semi-permanent beauty treatment is perfect for today’s client – it’s painless, natural and delivers stunning results.

Henna brow tinting uses natural dye from the henna tree to provide staining to the skin under the brows for a full effect. It also coats the brow hairs with colour, rather than changing the natural colour from within. This gentle process makes henna brows well suited to sensitive skin, while the easy-to-control dye can match almost any skin tone and brow shape.

As the skin is stained as well as the hair, henna eyebrow tinting is also great for clients with sparse eyebrows.

Henna brows can last between 2 and 4 weeks, though this does depend on skin type and how well the aftercare process is followed. Brow shades can be personalised by mixing dyes together and adjusting how long the henna is left on the brows for.

Want to find out more about what henna brows are and how to offer them in your salon?

We chatted with So Henna, the new professional henna brow brand available now at Salons Direct, to get the full lowdown…

So Henna Brow Products

What are henna brows? What makes them different from creme eyebrow tints on the market?

Brow tinting uses an oxidant to open the cuticle of the hair and allows colour to penetrate the brow hair cortex through the oxidation process. Normal eyebrow tinting colours only the brow hair. So Henna brows, on the other hand, acts like a blanket over the hair, coating the top layers of the hair cuticle, and also staining the skin which gives the brows an amazing powdered tattoo effect.

Henna brows have seen something of a surge in popularity lately. Why do you think this is?

Henna brows have undeniably become one of the biggest trends in the beauty industry. The fact that it is a natural alternative to other chemical dyes is very popular with a lot of clients and great for those that are allergic to conventional para dyes.

So Henna products stain both the skin and hair and can be easily mixed to get a variety of depths and shades. The stain underneath the brow hair can also help to create the illusion of darker brows. Henna creates a long-lasting shape, adds colour to your client’s brows and can create definition, even with no eyebrow hair.

This is the perfect treatment for all clients wanting to keep their brows at their best. Henna eyebrows have significantly increased in popularity due to the perfect compromise they make between brow makeup and cosmetic tattooing.

Tell us more about So Henna. How did the brand begin and what does it stand for?

So Henna is a brand created in collaboration with one of the best brow artists in the beauty industry. It is created with the desire and the dream to develop products which will guarantee enviable results and provide an easy to use brow staining solution – a new era in eyebrow tinting and eyebrow styling!

The brand started by focusing on the hit of 2017, henna eyebrows. We identified that many products on the market didn’t provide satisfactory results for all hair and skin types. We are constantly interested in delivering the best products and treatments to our customers, which is why we collaborate with top UK brow experts who are inspiring all brow artists out there to create amazing brows and follow the trend.

So Henna is vegan, cruelty-free and natural – how important do you think this is to clients today and why?

So Henna products are produced with a handful of ingredients, all of which have been tested positive for inducing health benefits. As a vegan beauty product, So Henna is also never tested on animals.

Vegans not only monitor the food they consume and the clothes they wear, but also the beauty products and makeup accessories they use in their daily lives. The So Henna brand provides healthier, as well as safer, products for the client’s skin.

An interesting fact is that vegan products are often better suited for sensitive skin. Vegan beauty products are considered superior since they have fewer ingredients in them. With the desire to be more sustainable, we were very cautious about our packaging designs, so all our cosmetics and accessories come with packaging that has been made from recyclable materials.

What makes So Henna ideal for use in salons?

Finally you can find a product which always gives amazing results for all hair and skin types!

So Henna has a wide range of colours – eight different varieties of coffee shades which can be used individually or they can be mixed with each other. Shades have a natural ashy finish, so no more orange or yellow brows.

So Henna powder requires only distilled water for making eyebrow staining paste which allows you to achieve maximum results in styling eyebrows. Using So Henna you have the opportunity to create expressive eyebrows, and also helps you to camouflage gaps in over tweezed eyebrows or eyebrows with sparse hair. Playing with the consistency of the So Henna paste will result in a different variety of shades and can range from very soft light to dark shades of brown colour.

Do you have any tips or advice for beauticians using So Henna for the first time?

So Henna is for professional use, so allow yourself to be a real artist and feel free to play with the different colours and their consistency to get a variety of depths and shades. The paste can be applied with many different types of painting brushes and only in one layer.

A light stain can be achieved within minutes, but the longer the paste is left on the skin, the darker and longer lasting the stain will be, so it will need to be left on as long as possible if you want to achieve a darker result.

After the stain reaches its peak colour, it holds for a few days, then gradually wears off by way of exfoliation, typically within three days to two weeks depending on the hair and skin type.

What is next for the So Henna brand?
