L’Oreal is synonymous with the hairdressing profession. Its products are widely used at leading salons across the world, and its commitment to innovation has helped the brand truly push the industry forward. The L’Oreal Professionnel range in particular has showcased the mission of L’Oreal to combine cutting edge research and industry expertise to create superb products for hairdressing professionals.

In this post we were lucky enough to speak with the team at L’Oreal about the heritage of the brand, how they have stayed competitive and the trends that they’ve seen emerging in the industry.

Tell us more about how L’Oreal Professionnel became industry innovators in the business of hairdressing?

Two years after the French chemist, Eugéne Schueller, developed a hair dye formula that revolutionised the hairdressing world, the company he founded became L’Oréal. Believe it or not, that story goes all the way back to 1907.

Since Eugéne’s first discovery, we have kept his passion alive by providing hairdressers with our most innovative products, tested and approved by the greatest names in hairdressing.

I am pleased to say that today we are still at the forefront of the industry. Our highly innovative products continue to lead in originality, innovation and market leadership. We believe in being at the head of both trends and technology. You’ll find our products backstage at the biggest fashion week shows and in the hands of the top stylists, forming strong links with top designers, photographers, and beauty and fashion magazines in order to raise the profile of the hairdressing industry.

How does L’Oreal Professionnel stay competitive within the industry?

L’Oréal Professionnel continues to develop new products and launches, including the upcoming launch of #COLORFULHAIR.

#COLORFULHAIR is a range of 8 intermixable direct dye shades, that can be dialled up to create ultra-bright vibrant shades. Alternatively dial it down, by mixing with crystal clear, to create soft, whimsical tones. These colours can last up to 15 shampoos. #COLORFULHAIR has been created with a care trio complex for softness and shine, and has a gel-cream texture for precise application.

What trends have we seen recently?

The upcoming launch of L’Oréal Professionnel #COLORFULHAIR has some amazing new trends and looks. Five new services were created with the launch to showcase the amazing results that can be achieved.

#Candy-Hair uses a blending technique to effortlessly mix and layer a variety of complementary shades. #Pastelage uses a balayage technique to gradually blend playful tones through the ends of the hair. #Mermaid-Hair uses a contouring technique to showcase bold ocean inspired colours. #Lavender-Hair uses a root melt technique to seamlessly blend vibrant violet shades into a softer lavender shade. Finally #Peekaboo Hair uses a strobing technique to embrace #COLORFULHAIR in a more subtle way.

L’Oréal Professionnel, in partnership with Adam Reed, shared the popular ‘Denim for Hair’ trend. These ranged from a classic blue rinse Stonewash look, that was both edgy and beautiful, to a deep and intense Indigo, and finally a statement making Midnight Ink style.
