Hollywood hairstylist and balayage ombre expert Guy Tang is a celebrity hair stylist who sets the gold standard in hair trends. Best known for his amazing hair colour designs Guy Tang’s creations have become a viral sensation. Salons Direct caught up with Guy Tang whilst he was in Schwarzkopf HQ Hamburg, Germany testing out the new IGORA Royal ColorWorx range.
How long have you been a hairstylist for, and how did you get started in the industry?
I’ve been a licensed hairstylist for 13 years now. I started doing hair even before I became licensed. I’ve loved doing hair ever since high school in our garage; I do my mom’s hair, my close friends and my own hair. Since then I’ve been doing hair!
What do you love most about your job?
I like the freedom of being creative. Doing hair is an art form for me. It expresses what I feel at the moment through hair.
How would you describe your signature look?
I have been known for a Balayage Ombre look that has a gradient transition from dark to light. I also have been known for my fashion colours that are so blended and seamless, you don’t know where it starts and ends.
What trends do you see being big in 2016? And 2017?
There will be a lot of muted colours that are wearable, I will be bringing back textures in hair and more seamless colouring.
What does a typical day in the life of Guy Tang look like?
I always make sure that I get time to go to the gym and work out. For me, it’s important to look good to feel good. I work all the time, if I am not doing a models or photoshoot, I answer questions and assist people in my social media outlets.
If you weren’t a hairstylist, what else would you do?
I would be a successful photographer.
