At the end of October, we hosted our Win a Day with Patrick Cameron competition in which one lucky winner could win a place on a two day course at Patrick Cameron’s Training School in London.

To enter, we asked people to send in a picture of their best hair creation, the winner would be handpicked by Patrick himself. Patrick picked Kerry Carter for the picture below. Following her two day course, we’ve caught up with her to find out what her time with Patrick was like.

So, tell us a little bit about yourself. Whereabouts are you from, how long have you been a hairdresser and how would you describe your style?

My names Kerry, I live in Woodley Reading, I’ve been hairdressing for 16 years and I’ve always taken an interest in long hair dressing since I started. I’d say I’m a hairdresser who loves to change my hair colour and style frequently at the moment I have pink hair ( which I love ) as it makes me stand out in the salon.

Patrick is a HUGE name in the industry, everybody loves him. What do you think it is about Patrick that makes people take to him in this way?

When you hear his name, straight away you think of the amazing hair ups he does. Hairdressers take to him in this way because you can learn so much from him. At the training school, everyone is just taken in by him and his amazing work, he makes hair look effortless which is amazing as you don’t realise what you can do with hair until you’re sat in front of him.

How did you feel when you found out you had won the chance to be taught by personally Patrick?

When I received the e-mail saying I’d won I had to read it a few times, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. It was only in October I had paid to go on his two day course, I didn’t think I would be going back again so soon to learn more, and to be taught more new hair ups was amazing.

What was Patrick like and more importantly, what did he show you?

When my two days arrived I was so excited When I got there I took a seat at the front so I could take in more of his work, when it came to doing the first hair up he said to me he recognised me. I told him I had been there in October but I was back because I won. He said when he judged the competition, he just gets to see the pictures he don’t know who actually does them.

He said he loved the shape of my hair up in my picture, and to hear that from your idol is amazing. I learnt 8 new hair ups some which I thought I wouldn’t be able to do but with the help and techniques from Patrick and Marco it was amazing what I could manage. He taught me things I didn’t realise I could do, that’s why he’s my idol. I even had the chance to pass up to him, which took me back to being a junior and what I used to do. He showed me how I could make hair bigger as we have a show coming up in January for our salon’s 40th birthday. It was nice of him to take them few minutes to show me while teaching a class.

Do you think anything you’ve learnt anything on the day that will change the way you work, if so how?

I learnt so much on my two day course; it will help me grow in my long hairdressing. I can now do more things than I thought I could do. I can use these hair ups on my brides and clients that are going to special events. I just want to thank Patrick for showing me these amazing hair ups.
