Salon interior is a hot topic at the minute and we can keep you up to date with all the latest trends, styles, and visions on our Salon Design Of The Month series. In this edition, we take a look inside Brows By Alice, a luxurious lash and brow bar based in the heart of Poole, UK. Not only is the salon interior truly STUNNING, but it also features our best-selling Lotus Monroe furniture range. We caught up with Alice to learn more about how her brow and lash business began and what she thinks makes a successful salon in 2022.
How did your salon begin?
When I started my brow journey 4 years ago, I worked late in the evenings and on the weekends alongside my main job for a good few years to try and build up my client base. I had a little home salon in one of our bedrooms upstairs. We then moved into a new renovation project a year and a half ago and the dream was to eventually have my own space separate from the house. After a year of waiting, my partner, Sam started the building process in the summer of this year, now only a few months on we’ve managed to create my dream salon.
How did you decide upon the design of your salon?
This was actually a real challenge because I’m such an indecisive person and tend to get bored of styles quite quickly, so I knew I needed to create a neutral, relaxing space that was timeless and simplistic.
I was forever looking on Pinterest at different aesthetics, designs and trying to piece it all together. There were definitely a few sleepless nights where my brain was on salon overload, running through all the different ideas I had in my head.
What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?
Spot our Lotus Monroe Beauty Bed and Chair 😍
I’m completely obsessed with my Lotus chair & Lotus bed. I didn’t actually look anywhere else because they were exactly what I wanted for the salon and fitted perfectly with the neutral look.
I also love my little reception desk that Sam tirelessly spent days making right before my salon opening.
With regards to my products, I’ve listed a few of my favourites below:
- HD brow & Nouveau
- Navy tools
- Buff brows
- Saint & Serenity
How do you stand out from your competitors?
I had always wanted to create a tranquil and relaxing space for my clients to come and visit, whilst offering a high end service on a personable level. I think it’s important for clients to be able to come to their treatment and be able to totally switch off from the daily stresses of life. I love that my job doesn’t feel like a job, just that I’m just catching up with one of my friends, so I hope all of my amazing clients feel the same way.
On a side note there are so many incredibly talented stylists in this industry and so I find that alone really inspiring.
What do you think makes a successful salon?
I think as long as you love what you do and it shows in your work then that’s the most important thing. Also with the social media side of things – consistency is definitely key.
How do you think social media has influenced our industry?
Without Instagram I wouldn’t be where I am today. When I first started off, I solely relied on friends, family and clients sharing and reposting my work. It’s all about word of mouth nowadays and social media definitely helped to get my name and brand out there. It’s such an amazing way of showcasing your work for people to see.

How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?
I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist and tend to be quite self critical at times, but I try to use it as a motivator to enable me to be the best I can be when it comes to the treatments I offer. I’m constantly trying to stay up to date with the latest trends and products available on the market and am always looking for relevant tips/techniques that I can implement into my work, as well as keeipng an eye out for any new treatments or courses that are coming to the market.
What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?
I WISH I’d started my brow/lash journey sooner. After a year or two of going back and forth I eventually booked my first brow course and haven’t looked back. It was the best decision I ever made. If you want it enough you’ll make it happen. There will never feel like the right time and it will always feel like a risk but it will eventually pay off.
What can we expect from your salon business in 2023 and beyond?
After a stagnant couple of years with covid I can’t wait to put my soul focus into my little business. I’m hoping to expand my knowledge with another treatment and have a few other ideas in the pipeline, so who knows what 2023 will bring…
