How did your salon business begin?
Starting at a young age, I always dreamed of wanting something of my own. I didn’t know exactly what; it just happened; getting my first job at the age of 16 working in a salon made me realise that this could be my career when I started creating hair! I just got it, it just clicked, and now at the age of 21, I’m here with my dream salon; I had a vision of a clean and clinical looking salon!
How did you decide upon the design of your salon?
When designing my salon, I had a vision of a clean, classy, clinical vibe that screams high end, and I wanted my work to match my salon! So that you had a complete experience when coming into Lukehearnehairstylist.
Quality is something I work with every day, so my salon had to have the best quality designed furniture and that is why I decided to have the full salon done with products from Salons Direct.
What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?
I am obsessed with Redken! I just love it; the way it makes my clients hair feel is perfect! A high-end brand at a reasonable price. I love Olaplex and always use it on my clients; knowing that it gives the hair strength and life allows me to create the work I do today.
How do you stand out from your competitors?
My competition’s something I ignore; I almost feel like if you concentrate on yourself that much and invest all you have into one thing, you become the competition. I look up to people who have created art in hair and are very successful, and they are my competition. This is why I have made a very successful business and am doubling and tripling in value.
What do you think makes a successful salon?
To make a salon successful, the person who created the salon needs to be ambitious, creative, and experienced in what they do and specialise in! Believing in yourself is the primary key to success!
How do you think social media has influenced our industry?
Social media has changed the hair and beauty industry, and it’s given us a platform to show our talents and be recognised! Social media has helped me grow my business and get me to where I am today.
What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?
Opening your salon is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! It’s very challenging! But also very rewarding as I wouldn’t have the lifestyle I do! For someone who wants to open their own shop, I would follow your instinct and wait until you’re 100% ready and don’t rush it! Making sure you have loyal clients is the key.

What can we expect from your salon business in 2022 and beyond?
I have very high goals! I set goals every year, and so far, I have smashed them! I’m currently building my way up in BEAUTYWORKS hair extensions – Presently I am a VIP certified Salon. I would like to see a chain of salons within the future of Lukehearnehairstylist.
