Welcome to the newest edition of Salon Design of the Month, where we interview real salon owners and hear how they started their businesses.

Here at Salons Direct, we love celebrating the nailshairbeauty, and barbering industries and the talented individuals behind them and this series is all about shining a spotlight on salon owners’ stories and what they’ve done with their spaces.

From village businesses to city hotspots, we’ll explore the diverse range of salons and the personalities behind them.

Get ready to be inspired by the stories of real salon owners…

This month, we caught up with Lauren, owner of LVL & Brows By Lauren, a salon based in Manchester.

LVL & Brows By Lauren

How did your salon begin?

My Lash Cabin was built in 2020, and this was my project during the pandemic whilst we were in lockdown.

How did you decide upon the design of your salon?

Design-wise, I wanted to keep my salon as homely as possible, making sure it was a welcoming environment and that my clients felt comfortable.

What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?

I’m an LVL Specialist, so Nouveau Lashes products are 100% my go-to! I also love other brands such as HD Brows, Navy Professional Tools, and Tweezerman—there are actually too many to name.

How do you stand out from your competitors?

I stand out because I am passionate and love what I do. Not only do I care about each client individually, but I also focus on Lash health and create excellent results, and I think this definitely shows in my work.

What do you think makes a successful salon?

Without a doubt, having loyal clients and being truthful/passionate with treatments.

Don’t just be a one-stop shop; make sure you always have time for each client. Be that listening ear & advice giver for your clients to offload; my salon is a safe space.

How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?

I tend to stay away from trends because they change so fast. I appreciate the people who do a select few treatments, so they specialise in that area.

What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?

Take the risk, follow your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you differently!

The hair & beauty industry is one of the biggest, there’s a lot of competition but don’t let this scare you, as your clients come to you for a reason.

What can we expect from your salon business in 2024 and beyond?

Hoping to have another successful year with my loyal clients and adding a couple of new treatments to my menu.
