This month, we joined Cerys Ling, the proud owner of Vanilla Hair Salon, a stylish hair salon based in Ipswich.
How did your salon begin?
It began when I decided to take the plunge into opening my dream salon! I’ve had the Lotus Murray chairs in my savings for a while. They’re truly beautiful! When I saw them, I knew I needed them!
I started as self-employed and had an incredible journey, but I knew that I’d always want my own space!
How did you decide upon the design of your salon?
I wanted a calming environment for clients to relax and wind down in. The softness of my decor does exactly that!
What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?
My all-time favourite things in my salon are my Procare trolleys, my ghds and Color Wow. All my go-to tools/products!
How do you stand out from your competitors?
The service we offer in Vanilla is friendly and relaxing.
It’s a small, intimate salon that offers a range of services, from amazing haircuts and colours to beautiful extensions!
What do you think makes a successful salon?
It’s a great team! I love my team. We work really well together and always support one another! I have some amazing, talented stylists here, and I couldn’t be prouder!
How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?
We regularly go on training to keep ourselves up to date in the salon. This includes a recent visit to the GHD capture event!
What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?
Don’t be scared—take the plunge! It’s the most amazing feeling in the world, especially when you have your decor planned!
What can we expect from your salon business in 2025 and beyond?
We have big things coming for Vanilla: lots of competition, more education and creating more beautiful content!
