How did your salon begin?

We only opened our doors last week, but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. From the start of the renovations, I just wanted to create a space where people feel at ease as soon as they walk in somewhere warm, calm and welcoming. The idea was to bring hair, beauty and atmosphere together so it all feels like one experience, which is where the name Blend came from.

How did you decide upon the design of your salon?

The salon has the most gorgeous arched windows, so I really wanted to bring that feature into the space. That’s where the arched mirrors and the arch in the backwash area came from it just ties everything together nicely.

I wanted it to feel warm and cosy but still quite modern and minimal. Somewhere clients can properly relax. I know I can be a bit messy with colour, so I kept things simple with black chairs (which I love) and worked everything around them. I didn’t want any clutter just a calm, slightly luxe space that doesn’t feel too much.

What are some of your favourite products and tools in your salon?

I love the Ghd Soft curl tong, now known as the Ghd Chronos Curve grand tong, it gives such effortless waves, and I feel like everyone is going for that softer look at the moment. I’ve also just switched to the Ghd Helios and I’m obsessed. It makes the hair so smooth, I don’t think I’ll go back.

For products, I always use L’Oréal Pli spray on dry hair before curling, and the Wella Reflections Light Oil is a favourite it smells unreal and leaves the hair feeling really soft.

How do you stand out from your competitors?

I think it’s mainly the experience. I want every client to feel comfortable, listened to and looked after from the moment they come in. It’s very personal not just the same thing for everyone and the atmosphere is a big part of that. It’s relaxed, friendly and just a nice place to be.

What do you think makes a successful salon?

Consistency and good relationships with clients. People need to trust you and know they’re going to get a good result every time. If they enjoy the experience as well, they’ll always come back.

How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?

A mix of social media, education and training. Things are always changing, so it’s nice to stay inspired, but I think it’s more important to adapt trends to suit each client rather than just following everything.

What advice would you give to others wanting to open a salon?

Just follow your gut and don’t do things just because other people are. I’ve wanted my own salon for so long, but I’m glad I waited until it felt right. Be clear on what you want to create and stick to it. Think about the kind of experience you’d want as a client and build from there.

What can we expect from your salon business in 2026 and beyond?

Definitely growth. It’s still so new, so there’s a lot I want to build on over the next year adding new services, improving the space and just developing what I’ve already started. I’m excited to see where it goes and to look back in a year and see how far it’s come.
