Salon Design of the Month: Francesco Hair Northwich

There’s something special about a salon that has grown alongside its team and its clients and this month’s Salon Design of the Month is a perfect example.

Francesco Hair Northwich has been part of its local community for almost two decades, evolving from a small salon into a spacious, two-floor destination centred around great hair, expert advice and a genuinely warm welcome.

Now, the salon has entered its next chapter with a fresh new look designed to bring a more luxurious feel to the space, while putting client and team wellbeing firmly at the heart of it.

This month, we’re stepping inside Francesco Hair Northwich to discover the story behind the salon, the inspiration behind its new design and the advice its owner would give to anyone dreaming of opening their own salon.

About Francesco Hair Northwich...

The story of Francesco Hair Northwich began in October 2008, when the salon was taken over with a small team and a brilliant location, right as the financial crash took hold.

Rather than letting challenging circumstances stand in the way, the focus was placed on building the salon’s reputation, investing in the team and delivering the kind of service that kept clients coming back.

How did your salon begin?

I took over the salon in October 2008, just as the financial crash took hold.

At the time, we were a small team, but the salon was in a great location. Slowly, I began building our reputation while focusing on team training and support.

By offering great service and great hairdressing, we quickly became very busy. Then, in 2014, with support from Wella and my franchisor, we expanded into a much larger two-floor salon.

How did you decide upon the design of your salon?

I wanted to give the salon a more luxurious, up-to-date feel while making better use of the space we have.

That included creating a private consultation area for scalp analysis, introducing luxury treatments and choosing a calming colour scheme alongside comfortable styling chairs and backwashes.

Most importantly, I wanted both our clients' and our team's wellbeing to be at the heart of the salon.

What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?

We love the Sebastian styling range and Wella House of Colour.

For tools, we use ghd alongside Wahl clippers, as well as Hello Bleach equipment and foil. They're all staples within the salon and help our team deliver the standard of service our clients expect.

How do you stand out from your competitors?

We're a large, hair-only salon with a highly trained team, but we still want the atmosphere to feel friendly, warm and welcoming.

Hair and scalp health are at the core of everything we do, and that's something we've continued to build upon as the salon and our services have evolved.

For us, it's about combining that knowledge and expertise with an environment where clients feel comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.

What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?

If you're passionate about opening your own salon, go for it.

It's the best job in the world. It can be difficult at times, but surrounding yourself with the right people makes such a difference. Having support from a good manufacturer, accountant and, of course, your team can help you succeed.

And one piece of advice I'd always give? Look after your staff and they'll look after you.

What can we expect from your salon business in the future?

The salon and the team are continuing to grow alongside our new look and the services we now offer.

We have some brilliant up-and-coming young hairstylists who are passionate about what they do and ready to take the next steps in their careers.

As for me, I've planned the next seven years around continuing to be the owner of a busy luxury salon – and I'm excited to see where we can take it next.
