Brand wide, Balmain is synonymous with luxury and here at Salons Direct, we are proud to stock Balmain hair extensions and hair pieces. Here we chat to Balmain to discover what sets them apart from their competitors and how the business of hair extensions has evolved.
Tell us more about how the brand began?
In 1974, Pierre Balmain recognised the importance of the hair-design as an essential part of ladies appearance and personality.
During the 1970s, entrepreneur Dick Guliker was awarded the worldwide license name of Balmain to represent this fashion brand in all things HAIR! Today Balmain Hair is the market leader in hair extensions and hair additions, with an impressive extensive product portfolio.
What do you think sets Balmain apart from your competitors within the market?
Balmain Hair Couture is the only hair brand with true fashion heritage. As part of the Balmain Paris fashion label, Balmain Hair has over 40 years of heritage in combining hair essentials with the latest catwalk trends. The collections are inspired by backstage secrets and mirror all a woman needs to create the ultimate catwalk inspired look.
Over these years, Balmain Hair established its legitimacy in the field of luxury. We pay meticulous attention to detail and perfection and are always researching and creating new application techniques to guarantee the best quality products, while always respecting our proud and rich heritage.
How have trends within the business of hair extensions evolved over the years?
Balmain Hair started as a wig company, creating fashion wigs for the runway shows of Balmain, salons and consumers. As styles and fashions change, hair extensions and additions became the forefront of the business with Balmain Hair Couture becoming market leaders in the industry.
What has been the brand’s greatest success? Campaign? Product?
Balmain Hair Couture created a patented hair for Ready-To-Wear hair pieces called Memory®Hair. This was revolutionary to the industry as it is a synthetic human hair that can still be heated up to 160 degrees to be styled. Memory®Hair looks the same as human hair due to a man-made cuticle on the hair, is more cost effective, lightweight, and easy to maintain – plus it ‘remembers’ the style it is shaped in. Once heat styled and cooled into a curl or straight style, the hair will stay in that shape, even when wet, until heat styled again into another style. Perfect for our drizzly British weather!
What is your best selling type / colour of hair?
Prebonded hair extensions are the most popular choice for hair extensions. The ash colour trend is booming at the moment! As a fashion brand, Balmain Hair Couture launched ash colours in our Prebonded professional extensions and our Ready-To-Wear extensions range to ensure fashionistas can have beautiful voluminous long hair in the most fashionable colours.
Where do you see the future of hair extensions heading?
Hair extensions used to be just for adding length. 70% of the women in the UK have fine hair and want more volume, and hairdressers are starting to see this and are using extensions as a volume service. Hairdressers can now offer this service to most of the clients, boosting revenue and ensuring client retention with regular appointments for maintenance.
What makes hair extensions look fabulous?
Aftercare, aftercare, aftercare! Following the easy aftercare plan will ensure hair extensions stay in optimum condition and look fabulous. Balmain Hair Couture guarantees the quality of the 100% human hair for 6 months when using the Balmain Hair aftercare products. The hair extensions are of the highest quality, and using the high quality aftercare products will keep hair in the best condition, so the hair can be reapplied for a more cost effective service.
What can we expect from Balmain throughout 2017 and beyond?
Watch this space! As a high-end fashion brand, there are always new luxurious products, trendy colours and innovative applications to help our hairdressers offer the best hair extensions service in the market.
