Vegan Map Of The UK – Q&A With Vegan Salon, Tranquilla Rosa

Discover our exclusive interviews with some of the fantastic vegan salons featured on our ‘Vegan Salon Map Of The UK‘. Here, we catch up with Jessica White from the Cornwall based, Tranquilla Rosa salon team to find out more about their vegan standpoint.

How does your salon cater to vegans?

I only use products that are vegan in my treatments. In addition, I signed a pledge with Cruelty-Free International to only use products that carry the Leaping Bunny logo – the international gold standard for non-animal tested products. Beauty products that are labelled as vegan don’t necessarily mean they are cruelty-free, it simply means they contain no animal-derived ingredients. As a vegan myself, it’s important to me to only use products that are strictly both vegan and free from animal testing.

Tell us more about your salon, how it began, what it stands for etc?

I started my business in 2011. I had been vegetarian for a few years and was transitioning to veganism at the time, and I knew from the start that my business would be completely vegan and cruelty-free. It’s one of the reasons I decided to work for myself; I felt I couldn’t work in a salon or spa that used products that had been tested on animals or contained animal ingredients as it would go against my ethical values.

I offer a range of treatments including aromatherapy, holistic massage, reflexology, organic facials and spa treatments, carried out using high-quality products by SKN-RG, SpaRitual and Quintessence Aromatherapy. I retail these products to my clients as well, and I also sell a range of beautiful aromatherapy diffuser jewellery which is PETA-approved vegan, meaning no cruel animal products such as leather, pearls or wool are used. In addition, I also use soy candles and organic cotton wool and tissues, and I try to recycle as much as I can. I am always looking for more ways to reduce my impact on the environment.

My business is all about ethical luxury. By combining the effectiveness of holistic therapies with the luxury of spa treatments, I create a unique and bespoke experience that allows complete balance and harmony of the mind, body and spirit.

Why is it important to you to cater towards veganism in 2019?

Going to salons can be tricky if you want to be sure you’ll receive a completely cruelty-free treatment but thankfully it is getting easier as the demand for vegan beauty increases. I have a lot of vegan clients who are excited to have somewhere they can go for treatments, and even the ones who aren’t vegan think it’s great that I use ethical products.

2019 has been called the year of the vegan due to an ever increasing number of people giving veganism a try, along with a surge in the availability of vegan food, clothing and beauty products. Offering vegan-friendly treatments and products in your salon means you will be able to expand your existing client base; vegans will travel miles to try great vegan food, and the same is true for beauty treatments!
