What is OLAPLEX?

OLAPLEX is a multi-step hair treatment system that can repair damaged hair and push the boundaries of chemical hair treatments. It was developed specifically for use in salons by professionals and features patented ingredients; therefore, you won’t find the same results anywhere else.

OLAPLEX also produces aftercare products for clients to maintain their results at home. This very versatile range can be used within chemical hair processing and colour services or as a stand-alone treatment to strengthen or restore damaged hair.

What are the benefits of using OLAPLEX?

OLAPLEX is renowned for its patented bond-building technology, which offers several key benefits for hair health and strength:

Repairs Damaged Hair

OLAPLEX products work by repairing broken disulfide bonds in the hair, which can be damaged by chemical treatments like colouring, bleaching, perming, or excessive heat styling. This repair process helps restore the hair’s structural integrity, making it stronger and healthier.

Strengthens Hair

By rebuilding the bonds within the hair shaft, OLAPLEX strengthens hair from the inside out. This results in reduced breakage, increased resilience, and improved overall hair health.

Improves Hair Texture

Regular use of OLAPLEX can improve the texture of the hair, making it smoother, softer, and more manageable. This is particularly beneficial for hair that feels rough or frizzy due to damage.

Enhances Color Longevity

For those who colour their hair, OLAPLEX helps maintain the vibrancy of the colour for longer periods. It reduces damage caused by the colouring process and helps keep the hair strong, which in turn helps the colour last longer.

Reduces Frizz and Flyaways

OLAPLEX reduces frizz and flyaways by repairing and smoothing the hair shaft, leaving hair looking sleek and polished.

Suitable for All Hair Types

OLAPLEX is designed to work on all hair types, whether straight, wavy, curly, or coily. It’s beneficial for anyone looking to improve the health and appearance of their hair.

Protects Against Future Damage

OLAPLEX not only repairs existing damage but also helps protect the hair from future damage by maintaining strong, healthy bonds. This preventative action is crucial for those who frequently style their hair or undergo chemical treatments.

Improves Elasticity

Healthy hair bonds contribute to better elasticity, meaning the hair is less likely to snap or break under tension. OLAPLEX helps improve the hair’s elasticity, making it more resilient to stretching and styling.

Who is OLAPLEX for?

OLAPLEX No.1 and No.2 were designed to be for professional use only, as this is when the best results are achieved. One of the key features of OLAPLEX is just how versatile it is, meaning every client with almost any hair type can benefit from it, such as:

Virgin Hair – It’s not just chemicals that can damage hair – heat, styling and the environment can all affect even uncoloured hair. OLAPLEX can help strengthen virgin hair and prevent future damage.

Coloured Hair – It can be mixed into hair colour and lightener to reduce damage occurring. Coloured hair can also be treated with OLAPLEX to address previous damage to prepare it for further treatments.

Curly & Naturally Textured Hair – Natural curls can regain their shape and hydration with the use of OLAPLEX for improved condition and resilience.

Chemically Textured Hair – Use before, during, and after chemical treatments such as perming and relaxing to maintain hair condition.

Hair Extensions – OLAPLEX can be used on 100% human hair extensions, though some extensions do have a Keratin coating which can act as a barrier to OLAPLEX.

It’s also free from sulfate, paraben, and phthalate, plus is 100% vegan and no products are tested on animals.

How does OLAPLEX work?

OLAPLEX works at a molecular level. It addresses the damage occurring to hair that is hidden deep within the cuticle. Disulfide bonds are the tiny molecules of ‘glue’ that keep our hair fibres together in their intended, healthy shape.

Unfortunately, disulfide bonds in the hair are all too easily broken by heated hair tools, brushing, UV light, air pollution, and chemical treatments such as colouring, lightening, perming, and relaxing.

When the bonds are broken, they can react with oxygen molecules, producing Stesteic Acid, which eats the protein out of the hair. This results in dry, rough, and dull hair that is difficult to style and too weak to take further chemical treatments.

OLAPLEX is revolutionary because it can stop this process. It pairs with broken disulfide bonds before oxygen molecules get a chance to react with them, preventing the damage and loss of protein that would have happened had it been left untreated.

This probably sounds very scientific, but the results are easy to understand. OLAPLEX works by repairing and preventing damage, restoring hair to its former glory, and giving it the strength it needs for future chemical or colour treatments.

How to use OLAPLEX in your salon

There are so many ways that OLAPLEX can enhance the services you offer in your salon. No matter who your client base is, there is sure to be a treatment to suit them. Here are just a few of the most popular usages…

1. As a stand-alone treatment

This treatment offers an easy introduction to the OLAPLEX range. It is suitable for almost any client and produces exceptional results, leaving hair in visibly improved condition. The treatment can be continued at home by offering clients OLAPLEX No.3 Hair Perfector as a take-home add-on.

Curly hair which has been transformed using treatment

For this treatment, dry hair is saturated with OLAPLEX No.1 and left to process for 5 minutes. OLAPLEX No.2 is then applied and left for a further 10 minutes. Both products are then shampooed out of the hair, and styling continues as normal. OLAPLEX No.4 Shampoo and OLAPLEX No.5 Conditioner are also recommended for best results.

2. OLAPLEX in Lightener & Bleach

OLAPLEX can be added to all types of hair lighteners and bleach, including powder, clay, cream, and oil-based formulas. The amount of OLAPLEX used varies depending on the amount of lightener used but does not require an increase in the volume of developers.

Adding OLAPLEX to the hair lightener helps prevent damage to the hair during processing. OLAPLEX No.1 is mixed into your developer and lightener before the treatment is carried out as usual. Following shampooing and rinsing, OLAPLEX No.2 is applied and left for 10 minutes before a second rinse and shampoo. OLAPLEX No.1 can also be added to hair toner if this step is needed.

3. OLAPLEX in permanent, demi, and semi-permanent Hair Colour

OLAPLEX can be added to any colour service, regardless of the brand or formula used. This offers the very best in hair colouring results, leaving hair in excellent condition with a smooth finish and beautiful vibrancy. OLAPLEX also reduces the porosity of the hair, which extends colour longevity.

Similar to using bleach, OLAPLEX No.1 is added to your colour and developer mixture—the amount varies depending on the amount of colour used. After processing, as usual, hair is rinsed and followed by OLAPLEX No.2. After 10 minutes, hair can be shampooed, conditioned, and styled as desired.
