In this months Salon Design Of The Month, we welcome you to step inside One Love Lane, based in Cambridge. The multi-service salon, founded by master extensionist Charlotte Johnson (Who you may know as Rapunzel Rocks), offers client’s a range of both hair and beauty treatments. Read on to hear more about how Charlotte began the salon, her favourite professional brands to work with and what we can expect to see from One Love Lane in 2022 and beyond.
How did your salon begin?
One Love Lane began in March 2020 when I signed the lease. Unfortunately, we went into the 1st national lockdown just six days later, so we didn’t officially open our doors until 4th July 2020. This was a blessing in disguise, though, as it gave us four months to let loose on the decor and to provide us with time to look through the internet to collect design ideas!
How did you decide upon the design of your salon?
I always knew that I wanted a girly vibe to the salon, so pink was the obvious choice! I spent hours on end trawling through Pinterest to collect ideas.
What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?
We are a huge fan of Pulp Riot in the salon as we love vivid colours and specialise in creative colouring. Olaplex is an absolute must, so we love that. The girls in the nail department love Glitterbels and obsessively collects all of the acrylic colours!
How do you stand out from your competitors?
We have found a niche by specialising in hair extensions and custom colouring hair extensions. The decor is unique for our area, making it a unique and memorable experience for clients who visit us.
What do you think makes a successful salon?
Having a high standard of work is a must. Having a friendly atmosphere that makes clients feel welcome is hugely important too.
How do you think social media has influenced our industry?
Social media has influenced our industry in so many ways. It has made advertising and exposure easy for everyone in hair and beauty. It is also a great way to create an online portfolio accessible for all.
How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?
We love to follow all our favourite industry professionals on social media and leading brands and similar small businesses.
What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon?
You only regret the risks you didn’t take. If you want it, then do it!
What can we expect from your salon business in 2022 and beyond?
We have lots of new fantastic specialist courses booked for early 2022 for our ever-growing team to broaden our range of services. We Would love to become industry leaders in our own right …. Maybe one day!
