This month, we caught up with Georgina, owner of @bygeorginahairdressing and @bygeorgina_makeup 
How did your salon begin?
I moved to Essex when I was 21 and developed a clientele doing makeup. I opened my salon six months later due to high demand offering hair colour, styling, extensions & makeup services.
How did you decide upon the design of your salon?
I wanted to bring a luxury feel to the salon, so I developed the design with a lot of LED lights as it’s very eye-catching. I paired it with a beige and gold theme because I love warm colours. I wanted the salon to have a modern feel to it that was slick and classy.
What are some of your favourite products and tools to use in your salon?
We are a L’Oréal salon, so most of our products are L’Oréal. We also love Color Wow products and GHD tools.
How do you stand out from your competitors?
We strive for great customer service and keep on top of current trends, so we’re always one step ahead. We are also known for bringing good vibes because we, as a team, generally care for each other, and we have such a good time at work, which our customers notice. We know how to have fun whilst remaining professional.
What do you think makes a successful salon?
A good working environment brings great vibes to the customers. Teamwork is essential to ensure things run smoothly & more than anything, great customer service.
How do you keep up to date with the latest industry trends?
We are all quite hot on social media, which helps us keep in the loop of new trends and techniques.
What advice can you give to others wanting to open a salon? 
Don’t rush it, and have a solid business plan. You will burn yourself out if you take on too much before you’re ready. Go the extra mile for your customers, as word of mouth is really powerful.
What can we expect from your salon business in 2023 and beyond?
Great things, we are bringing out our own new products and our footfall has massively escalated since our recent refurb. We have loads of training courses booked, so we’re always learning and bringing the best service to our customers.
